Upcoming Windows 10 Design Refresh (Windows Neon)

Postby Spriteclad » February 11th, 2017, 2:03 am

Surprised there wasn't a topic about this here yet. Hm.

Anyways, there's an upcoming design revision coming to Windows 10 called "Windows Neon." It's expected to come out sometime before the end of the year. I honestly think it looks good (other than the huge gutter in the top of the windows in the first concept) and I think it's a nice welcome change to the modern Windows design.

You can find more screenshots & more info about it here and here.

What do you guys think?

That taskbar looks like it uses inverted colors...

Also, that blur looks similar to Apple macOS's blur (almost identical in that example)

(I don't say that this thing is a bad thing but I wonder if you can disable it to save some useful resources and battery percentage)

I dislike it. Too Apple-y for me. We're moving further and further away from traditional Windows "visual styles" and I hate it! #bringbackclassic #bringbackaerowhichbythewayhasbeenthesinglemostpopularpieceoffeedbacksincetheinsiderprogramstarted

Yeah...the blur is apple af, though that alone isn't a bad thing IMO...what scares me is that it doesn't really look like Windows anymore, it looks like...I dunno, Remix OS's sharp-cornered half-brother? Eh, something like that...

...in any case though, my biggest concern isn't the look of NEON itself, but what thus could mean for the process of removing/replacing it. Am I the only one here who feels that way? .-.

Honestly, I really don't mind this new style at all, and I think the blur looks nice, even if it was copied from Apple. I mean hey, every tech company copies Apple at some point because Apple's already taken what they've done and made it somewhat better, so.

I'm just worried if all the old custom themes for 10 are going to break with this. I don't want customizers to be pissed off because of the Neon/Creators update and be forced to use less customizable "themes." Please MS, just think of the tinkerers already! :P

(I do wish the Classic theme would come back though :'( )

...to be fair, it'd be the 3rd time they broke all the Visual Styles, sooo... |:

Well it's not actually gone (heck, Microsoft accidentally let us enable it alongside DWM as of Windows 8 :D ), but I do fear that NEON may render it unusably broken...

I think the blur looks cool but as people have said it's very much like Apple.

It also seems a bit bland with the colours it uses on the taskbar compared to how Windows 10 is now.
Long live Windows Vista!
